Reports to: Coordinator of Transportation
General Definition of Work: Performs human support work providing assistance to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the bus driver.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with loading, transporting and unloading of all students on the assigned bus
- Assists students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.
- Assists with the security of students on school buses and observes the special needs of individuals
- Assists the driver in maintaining adequate discipline
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting and speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and Bodily Fluids; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
General knowledge of the transportation of students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; good physical and mental health; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students and the general public.
A high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate is required.
Contract Period: 10 months
