Reports to: Assigned Site Supervisor

 

General Definition of Work: Performs intermediate skilled trades work serving as a skilled trades worker in plumbing work in school, equipment, buildings and facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the shop foreman.

 

Essential Functions:

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires walking and climbing or balancing and occasionally requires standing, sitting, speaking or hearing, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms-length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

 

Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the plumbing trade; general knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials; thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the assigned trade; skill in the use of tools and equipment; ability to draw and work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications; ability to follow and issue oral and written instructions; ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with building staff and associates. A high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate and considerable experience in the plumbing trade, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

A valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

 

Contract Period: 12 months
