Reports to: Behavior Support Intervention Coordinator 

 

General Defintion of Work: Performs duties related to assisting students with the needs of behavior and educational support in the BEST lab and other settings as needed. The duties include but are not limited to behavior support, instructional activities, assisting students with academic support, establishing and running various support groups, preparing and maintaining files and reports, assisting students with disabilities to meet behavioral and educational objectives, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the BCBA Behavior Support Intervention Coordinator.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide behavior, educational, and SEL learning and support for the student in the BEST lab or other assigned setting.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to help students have positive outcomes in the school environment.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior; helps provide/reinforce classroom management; monitors students to keep them on tasks
  • Provide an environment in the BEST lab that is supportive, conducive to learning, and helps provide and teach the skills necessary for the student to be successful in the classroom setting.
  • Uses a variety of strategies/modalities to explain or communicate difficult concepts to students
  • Supervises students in the BEST lab and any other area assigned area that may need support to help the student be successful.
  • Performs clerical/organizational tasks (i.e.) record keeping, best lab documentation, supports plans, laminates; files papers; organizes handouts for materials for activities.
  • Checks in with teachers of the students served in the BEST lab developing and maintaining a positive rapport with the teachers, administration, and students. 
  • Assists and monitors students in numerous settings.
  • Collects instructional and/or behavioral data pertaining to student performance.
  • Directs vehicles and traffic during the arrival and departure of students to school; monitors children getting on and off buses.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing and walking; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

 

Education and Job Experience: General knowledge of the behavior support practices, methods, and techniques used in the school environment; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students, and the general public. 

 

License/Endorsements: Bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree, 60 hours of college credit, or successful completion of the Paraprofessional test and the completion of 40-hour RBT training is required. 

 

Contract Period: 10 months 

 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
