Reports to: Principal/Supervisor of Student Services

 

General Definition of Work: To provide speech and language screenings, assessment and therapy to children.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose, and remediate communication disorders of students from two to twenty-one years of age
  • Use a wide range of test materials and assessment procedures in areas of speech, language, voice, fluency and hearing and maintain familiarity with improved methods and materials
  • Use of varying technique for remediation in the areas of speech, language, voice, fluency and hearing
  • Ability to develop and implement appropriate goals and objectives for each individual student
  • Implement appropriate clinical procedures in providing individualized programming to each student
  • Knowledge of computer applications and assistive technology applicable to the position of speech language pathologist
  • Strong communication and human relation skills needed
  • Be able to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of an educational team
  • Good written language and organizational skills needed to formulate concise clinical reports, develop IEPs and Individualized Service Plans (ISPs), and to maintain complete longitudinal records for each student
  • Manage the process and documentation of the IEP, re-evaluation and dismissal process
  • Communicate with students’ parent in regard to legal rights and informed consent
  • Exhibit rapport, understanding, enthusiasm and appropriate two-way communication with students, parents, school staff and colleagues
  • Perform other duties as apparent or assigned

Education and Job Experience: Course work and demonstrated knowledge and expertise in working with communication disorders, including significant expertise in evaluation and therapeutic techniques; experience working cooperatively with professionals in related disciplines; and/or other combination of applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.

 

License/Endorsements: Holds a Master's degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders.  Must be licensed by the Board of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP).  American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) desirable.  Knowledgeable of Federal, State and local laws and policies as they pertain to speech-language pathology. Possess high moral standards and integrity.

 

Contract Period: 10 months
